My laptop will not turn on unless my AC power supply is plug in and turned on. Then my laptop will turn on. Without it I can't turn it on with just my battery. I have checked that the battery is fully charged and works, as when I turn my laptop on and then take the AC power supply out it runs fine with the battery.
After playing with it a little more, I have come to the realization that it will ONLY turn on if it is plugged in to the wall. When attempting to charge it, the red light comes on for barely a second then turns off, but the charging icon on the screen is there. I tried to charge it through my computer, but the red light and sound occurs three times and the screen flashes on then off.

Laptop computers are designed to operate with both AC adapters and batteries as power sources but can properly function when receiving power from only one source. Dell says a laptop does not draw.
Sounds like the charging circuit might be fried, which would prevent the battery from receiving more charge from the laptop and PROVIDING charge TO the laptop when the AC adapter is disconnected. I encountered my fair share of those when supporting hundreds of laptops at a previous job. If you've got a warranty that includes on-site service, it's a pretty quick fix, or if you're having.
RE: Laptop won't turn on without being plugged in If the system DOES recognize the AC adapter (F2 at powerup to check -- make sure it's not showing unknown), and the battery is recognized and appears to be functioning properly (no errors), that leaves the mainboard as the faulty part.
